Should You Buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross? – MotorIllustrated

Does it live up to its name?
Unveiled earlier this year, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is the newest addition to the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup. As its name implies, is based on the popular Corolla sedan and powered by a 169 horsepower 2.0L 4-cylinder engine coupled with a continuously variable transmission. It is also available in both FWD and AWD variants.
The new 2022 Corolla Cross will be available in L, LE, LE Premium and XLE trims. The Corolla has been one of the most successful vehicles in history, with more than 50 million sold since 1966. It’s also one of the best-selling vehicles in America and around the world – and that success isn’t going to end anytime soon.

“The Corolla nameplate is hugely popular in Canada and is a strong seller, year after year, with drivers across the country,” Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada said in a press release. “Millions of Canadians had looked to Corolla for a vehicle that’s fun to drive, easy to own, and equipped with a compelling combination of features, quality, reliability, and safety. Now, the new Corolla Cross gives them even more Corolla choice, with a blend of compact form, impressive versatility, and all-wheel-drive that’s ready for year-round driving fun.”
The all-new subcompact SUV sits on the highly praised Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and will be slotted between the CH-R and the RAV4. As a subcompact SUV, it’ll battle the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Subaru Crosstrek and the Hyundai Venue, to only name a few.

With the new Toyota Corolla Cross, car shoppers have a new body style choice within the popular sub-compact SUV segment. The 2022 Corolla Cross offers buyers increased practicality and SUV styling cues but comes at a $3,500 premium over the standard Corolla Hatchback. With added cargo space and all-wheel drive (AWD) capability, it could be an ideal fit for some buyers.
Toyota has long been a brand of reliability, and the Corolla name has forever been synonymous with smart car purchases. This new model is no exception: it’s expected to be great as most of Toyota’s other vehicles. As it stands, the 2022 Corolla Cross is a home run. But, when Toyota unveils its hybrid version in the future, it’s going to be an absolute grand slam.
