Electric bicycle crash kills man near Seascape resort – Pacifica Tribune
A Soquel man died Saturday evening when he crashed his electric bicycle on a road in Rio Del Mar.
The 57-year-old man, whose name was not released, was riding his bike north on Sumner Avenue, near the Seascape resort, around 6 p.m. As he approached Dolphin Drive, he struck the center median and was ejected onto the road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
The man was wearing a helmet, the report said. His Sur Ron electric bicycle is classified for off-highway use — such as dirt tracks — and is not intended for use on public roads, CHP Officer Sam Courtney said.
California Highway Patrol is waiting for a toxicology report. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributor to the accident, but also has not been determined to be a cause, Courtney said.
